Elaine founded the Centre for Daily Living Skills when her daughter, Victoria, first joined SUN-DAC at Upper Thomson. Her vision was for the Centre to be a curated lifestyle community catering to Victoria and her friends; a hub where they not only find respite and regulation through various therapeutic services but also skills-training and social activities for holistic-living.
Although Elaine is a Corporate Lawyer with a thriving legal practice, she has been embarking on various forms of trainings and certifications since the moment Victoria was diagnosed. She is certified by the College of Teachers in the U.K for Learning Disorders Management and Language Development and has attended the Masterclass of Joe England Drama and Autism (JEDAA). She has undergone trainings in ABA, RDI and More Than Words. She is also certified to provide Sound Therapeutic Services. She has witnessed Victoria shed many sensory and behavioural issues after Victoria had been attended as a young child by her sound therapist and has as such taken up training an certification in this area. "Sound is created with vibrations and we are made of atoms within which electrons vibrate. Some of us are just more auditorily-sensitive. When we are exposed to negative sounds daily, we may react in certain ways to express discomfort. When we immerse ourselves in a therapeutic sound bath, so to speak, the good vibrations suitable for our specific make-up may reset and restore a harmonious frequency within our own vibration system. We may then feel more relaxed or more alert, for instance. Engagement in sound for emotional and mental regulation or expression is innate as seen from many ancient cultures."
Presently, Elaine is working closely with SG Enable to hold more programmes for youths with special needs so that they are therapeutically and productively occupied in a safe environment. The Centre's programmes cater to special youths on the threshold of adulthood.
She will also be regularly hosting funded caregiver programmes to foster and strengthen ties amongst the caregivers of this community of youths.
